SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 28, 2018) – Mayor Nirenberg has signed a pledge adding San Antonio to the statewide It’s Time Texas Community Challenge. Mayor Nirenberg wants San Antonians to step up their participation and show the rest of the State the community’s commitment to fitness and wellness.

The It’s Time Texas Community Challenge, a statewide competition, pits Texas communities against one another to see which can demonstrate the greatest commitment to healthy living.

To see Mayor Nirenberg working out and getting strong, view his Challenge video here:

Spearheaded by the Mayor’s Fitness Council, San Antonio won the Challenge in 2016, but lost to Austin last year. San Antonio is currently in second place, behind Austin yet again. The Challenge ends on March 4, so there are only a few days left to join in!

To earn points for San Antonio, individuals need to register at and take “healthy selfies” (take a selfie anytime you are drinking water, eating healthy, or being active). They can then post the selfie on and earn 200 points for each selfie!

For more updates, follow the Mayor’s Fitness Council Facebook page at

The mission of the Mayor’s Fitness Council is to lead San Antonio to be one of the healthiest and most active communities in the nation in which residents, groups, and organizations work collaboratively to achieve targeted health and fitness goals.
