SAN ANTONIO (March 1, 2018) -  District 5 Councilwoman Gonzales voted in support of amending the City Code to the First Amendment assembly and procession activities within the city. The amendments included waving the fees related to marches and processions. An advocate for complete streets the Councilwoman feels streets should allow all modes of movement, not just cars.

"We need to take back our streets for all users: pedestrians, cyclists, drivers and public transit riders. This ordinance helps give the streets back to our neighbors for local religious processions, neighborhood events, and celebrations as expressions of First Amendment rights. I was happy to vote in support of the amendments today which included removing permit and traffic safety costs and changes to free speech policies and spaces in certain non-public forums in the City (the Alamodome and the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center)," said Councilwoman Gonzales.
