SAN ANTONIO (March 2, 2018) —Nothing says you love your pet more than ensuring their safety and wellbeing. A registered microchip from Animal Care Services can help you do both…..for FREE!  ACS will host the popular Microchip MANIA clinic this today, March 2 from 2- 5 p.m. at Woodlawn Lake Park located at 1103 Cincinnati near the boathouse. No appointments are needed for the FREE clinic. Both dogs and cats are welcome but puppies should be held and residents must ensure all their animal companions are leashed or in an appropriate carrier. Free microchips available for the pets of City of San Antonio residents only and photo I.D. is required to receive services.

Animal Care Services implanted microchips include basic lifetime registration and are updateable at any time without charge. The onetime injection is similar to a vaccination and the microchip or “chip” is no bigger than a grain of rice. Local veterinary clinics and shelters (including the City’s ACS) scan animals upon intake with a special handheld device. The pet’s microchip has a unique ID number (similar to a driver’s license number) which can be “read” by this scanner, helping trace the dog or cat back to the owner through their provided contact information.
