SAN ANTONIO (April 11, 2019) – Today the San Antonio City Council unanimously approved a $1.6 million construction contract for improvements to the Buena Vista St. corridor. Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales issued the following statement:
“This contract is part of a $2.5 million 2012 - 2017 bond funded project and is needed for two reasons: first, it provides for pedestrian safety for residents, students and visitors who use this heavy traffic area on a daily basis. And second, it opens the Westside to more foot traffic from downtown and fosters business development.
The work that is scheduled to begin next month will bring much needed expansion to sidewalks and add pedestrian lighting along a section of Buena Vista St. (from Santa Rosa St. to Frio St.) install a High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk (HAWK) signal at Leona St. and upgrade existing traffic signals to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
I’m looking forward to seeing the project construction completion in 10 months.”
