2020 World Heritage AREA PROJECT uPDATES vIRTUAL MEETING - DECEMBER 15, 2020

The World Heritage Office hosted the World Heritage Area Project Updates virtual public meeting on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 6 p.m. Meeting topics included: Opportunity Zones in the Southside, Harvey E. Najim Family YMCA – Phase 2 and Phase 3, and the World Heritage Trail Street Name Changes.

Additionally, during the meeting held on December 15, 2020, two surveys were launched for the public to participate and provide feedback on two projects. The first survey is the Southside Opportunity Zones Questionnaire. The City of San Antonio’s Economic Development Department and World Heritage Office are working in partnership with the Southside First Economic Development Council to identify strategies and opportunities to attract investment in the Southside Opportunity Zones. These zones provide a federal tax incentive as an economic development tool to encourage long-term investment in distressed communities in the U.S. 

The second survey that is being conducted was launched by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, regarding Phase 2 at the Harvey E. Najim Family YMCA. Following its grand opening in 2017, the City’s 2017-2022 Municipal Bond Program included $2 million for additional amenities and expansion on the site. This survey is designed to gather feedback from the community on the types of amenities that are desired for Phase 2.
