Marketing & Outreach
The San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau, now known as Visit San Antonio started promoting World Heritage internationally and nationally when designation was announced and has incorporated the World Heritage designation into its marketing efforts. The City and Visit San Antonio are always working to enhance the overall visitor experience with opportunities to experience our Missions in new ways.
The Missions and their designation are highlighted prominently on VisitSanAntonio.com. Other marketing materials include the airport video , the visitor guide , and brochures highlighting what visitors can experience at each of the Missions and the best modes of transportation. Visit San Antonio has also developed special behind-the-scenes and guided “Unforgettable Experience” tours to enhance your visit to our World Heritage Missions.
World Heritage Ambassador Program
Soon there will be a new World Heritage ambassador certification available in conjunction with the Certified Tourism Ambassador program so those interacting with our visitors are well-versed in the history of the Missions and can be resources. To become a World Heritage Tourism Ambassador, you must first be a Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) with a valid CTA number. Once you have your valid CTA number, you only need to register to take the online World Heritage Ambassador Program and complete the educational program with a score of 70% or better. There is no fee to take the online course. CTAs who complete the World Heritage Ambassador Program will earn 20 points toward their annual recertification.
Upon successfully passing the online program, the World Heritage Ambassador will receive a certificate of completion and an official pin. Congratulations you are now part of a distinguished group of hospitality professionals who play a key role in ensuring a consistent portrayal of facts as they relate to the Missions!
All World Heritage Ambassadors will be required to renew their Ambassador Certification annually and complete two (2) World Heritage tours for one or more people within the calendar year and complete a short survey after the tour.
World Heritage Ambassadors are acknowledged by the City of San Antonio (COSA) World Heritage Office and Visit San Antonio as proficient and knowledgeable about UNESCO World Heritage in general and San Antonio's World Heritage Designated Missions in particular. Mobile Responsive Website
The World Heritage Office and Visit San Antonio are launching a mobile responsive website that will enhance visitor understanding and sharing of an authentic experience at the San Antonio World Heritage Site by facilitating positive engagement through clear transportation/navigation direction, historic insights, current activities, nearby places of interest, and social media integration. This website is focused primarily on our visitors, domestic or international. However, local residents who are interested in the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Site will also be able to benefit from the website since it will include not only historic insights, but also links to current activities and local places of interest. The website was developed to be flexible in order to accommodate ongoing updates and development in the area and to be accessible on all mobile platforms and devices. The website content is translated into English, Spanish, German, Japanese, Mandarin, and French. www.worldheritagesa.com will provide a user friendly, positive experience for all visitors.
World Heritage Festival
The inaugural World Heritage Festival was held in September of 2016 to raise awareness by promoting our World Heritage site to residents, celebrate the designation and raise funds for those non-profits and projects that preserve, maintain, promote and connect. The Festival consisted of a five day celebration spread throughout the five San Antonio Missions and surrounding area that included Restored by Light and Tour de Misiones bike ride. This event will be held on an annual basis and expanded over time and is in support of the Organization of World Heritage Cities International Day of Solidarity.
