Be a city volunteer, Help Make a Difference
The City of San Antonio is a great place to volunteer! There are opportunities for residents to get involved in activities that enhance our community.
Animal Care Services
Volunteers allow us to give our animals the care and attention they require and deserve. Our volunteers assist in our kennels, with adoptions, in our vet clinic and with other administrative duties. Volunteer opportunities are available seven days a week at our main campus at 4710 Hwy 151, our auxiliary campus on Brooks City Base, several cat adoption centers inside PetCo and PetSmart locations and at off-site adoption events. Visit the ACS website for more information.
Our volunteers work year-round to help keep our city beautiful, please join us! There are various ways you can volunteer to help "Wipe out Graffiti", Adopt-a-Dumpster, Adopt-a-Spot, Adopt-a-Park, or Adopt-a-Bus Shelter, lot clean-up, alley clean-up, and litter pick-up. Grab your paint brush and get started today!
Help us preserve San Antonio’s history! You can volunteer to become a tour guide, help us with historic surveys and many fun community events. You also have the opportunity to get hands-on experience in minor repairs and maintenance of historic property with our S.T.A.R. program. Visit our Historic Preservation website for more information.
If you like making people smile and working with people, volunteer with the Department of Human Service's Senior Services! Together we can make a difference by helping senior citizens lead active, independent and engaged lives. Volunteers can help with distributing nutritious meals, leading educational classes, administrative duties or special City-wide events including Seniors' Day in the Park and Project Cool. Volunteer opportunities are available Monday – Friday at a Senior Comprehensive Center right in your neighborhood! For more information, visit our Senior Services site sanantonio.gov/humanservices/SeniorServices or call 210-207-5843.
Library lovers are welcome to join our team! Tasks include assisting new computer users, working with the Genealogy Department, sorting book returns, book repair or greeting patrons at the Central Library. Special opportunities exist for teen volunteers seeking leadership activities. Many branches have Teen Library Leadership Councils where you will help plan the direction of teen library activities. Volunteers ages 14 and up are welcome - visit mysapl.org
