Mike Gallagher was the President of the Northeast Neighborhood Alliance (85 neighborhoods), Chairman of the City of San Antonio Board of Adjustment, and former President and current Vice President of the Northern Hills Homeowners Association. On January 30, the San Antonio City Council unanimously voted to appoint Mr. Gallagher to fill the vacant seat in District 10.
Prior to this, he served on numerous boards and committees for the city including the Neighborhood Code Enforcement Task Force, the Northeast Corridor Revitalization Steering Committee, and various bond committees. He also served as Advisory Board Community Member of the Baptist School of Health Professionals.
Gallagher retired from the Air Force with the rank of Colonel with almost 29 years of service. His duties included assignments as an air traffic controller and a public affairs officer.
He was Senior White House Social Aide for President Ronald Reagan, Media Relations Director for General Norman Schwarzkopf in Operation Desert Storm, Director of Public Affairs for United States Air Forces Europe, and Director of Public Affairs for the Air Force’s largest command, Air Combat Command.
His final job in the military was at the Pentagon where he served as the Special Assistant for Public Affairs to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In that capacity he served as media advisor and spokesman for General John Shalikashvili.
His aircraft controller assignments were in Michigan, Florida and Alaska. He was a public affairs officer in the United Kingdom, Germany, Saudi Arabia, the Pentagon, Texas, Florida, Virginia, and Massachusetts.
Gallagher is a graduate in residence of the National War College, New Mexico State University (BA in Political Science) and the University of Oklahoma (MA in Mass Communication).
