Customer Alert System


The Customer Alert System (CAS) alerts enrolled customers via email of permit activity, project approvals, inspection tracking and notifications, keeping you informed throughout the entire permit process.


Customer Alert System — Track Your Inspector

On a typical day, the building inspectors of the Development Services Department (DSD) perform over 500 inspections across the City, resulting in more than 1 billion possible route and stop alternatives.

To help streamline the inspection process and make it more efficient, DSD is rolling out a custom solution that will generate daily optimum route plans for building inspectors. As an added feature, our Customer Alert System (CAS) has been updated to provide customers with pending inspector arrival notifications.

When an inspection is scheduled, all contacts on a permit with valid email addresses will receive an email by 7:30 a.m. on the day of the inspection.  The email provides a tracking link, giving access to real-time tracking of the inspector's current location, their place on the queue, and contact information. Refreshing the link throughout the day will help you better estimate the inspector's arrival and see their current location.

Overall, the new system brings additional benefits to the department and our customers including more inspections per inspector per day. Since the solution ties in to the department's use of mobile technology, inspection supervisors have access to online dashboards to monitor inspection activity in real time and push updates to inspector mobile tablets. The solution will also ensure inspector and vehicle accountability via GPS tracking, and the inspection vehicle fleet will be greener since optimized routes will reduce fuel usage and maintenance costs.
