SAN ANTONIO (March 31, 2017)-- Councilman Cris Medina circulated a Council Consideration Request calling for the exploration of revising the City’s Smoking Ordinance to include all outdoor areas of our City parks and trails systems.

In 2010, the City Council adopted changes to that expanded the ordinance to include areas such the San Antonio Zoo and public right-of-way areas along the Fiesta parade routes. Councilman Medina is requesting an exploration of extending the ordinance to the City’s parks.

“This recommendation arose out of long-term concerns expressed by families, park-goers and the Woodlawn Lake Community Association,” said Medina. “The exploration of our current ordinance is in line with similar revisions to smoking ordinances in cities like Dallas and Houston. As the needs and preferences of our community changes, it’s important that we take a look at items like our smoking ordinance to ensure they are current and in line with consideration to the public health and well-being of our community.”
