SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 26, 2017) — “As the former Chair of the City Council’s Public Safety Committee, I know how crucial it is to keep the safety, dignity, and well-being of San Antonio residents – especially women and children – at the heart of our public policy.

Today’s revelation is a painful reminder that our work to change attitudes regarding sex crimes and their victims is never over. These are our neighbors, friends and sisters, and we can never make our commitment to them too clear.

Like everyone else, I’m shocked and disgusted that anyone who works in this arena could be so dismissive and indifferent toward the women and children victimized by these heinous crimes. It takes tremendous strength and bravery to come forward, and that must be honored and respected.

Sadly, the trust and credibility lost today will be doubly hard to earn back.  I will ensure that work begins immediately.”
