SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 27, 2017) — “I was deeply disturbed to learn of over 130 cases being mishandled by the Special Victims Unit of SAPD.

Victims and families affected by domestic violence crimes, sex crimes, or human trafficking have had the course of their lives altered forever due to the heinous actions of someone else. Coming forward is hard enough. At the very least, they should be able to trust that their cases will be appropriately handled with a sense of thoroughness and care, we owe that to them.

As Public Safety Chair, I will work to ensure there is real accountability. I will not rest until the steps are taken to restore a sense of trust in our community when reporting these horrific crimes. I expect that Chief McManus and city leadership will work diligently to ensure these issues are rectified and will work to hold the Special Victims Unit accountable to our children, families, and neighbors.”
