SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 27, 2017) —   “I find it deeply troubling that a few in the Special Victims Unit have failed the victims of sex crimes and domestic violence due to their negligence in properly investigating about 130 cases. It is already difficult for many of these victims to report these types crimes to local law enforcement, and we will not tolerate an attitude of carelessness when responding to them.

I hope the public understands that this city's leadership will make sure that significant steps are taken to rectify these problems, and we ask that they continue reporting sex crimes and domestic violence to the San Antonio Police Department.

I trust Chief McManus will do everything necessary to make sure that the Special Victims Unit is working diligently and with professional integrity to help find justice for the victims that put their trust in them to do so.”
