SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 26, 2018) — The City of San Antonio released the latest episode of The City Insider podcast with City Manager Sheryl Sculley. In this episode, Sculley, Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Government & Public Affairs Director Jeff Coyle discuss the annual ‘SA to DC’ federal advocacy trip taking place next week in the nation’s Capital. For 40 years, the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce has organized the trip, and this year 120 community and government leaders will participate in meetings with members of Congress and federal officials regarding priorities for the San Antonio community.

Topics discussed in this podcast include:

  • Potential cuts to federal funding for community development programs
  • Efforts to attract federal funds to support San Antonio’s transportation needs and the SA Tomorrow comprehensive plan
  • Challenges associated with securing a nonstop flight from San Antonio to Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.
  • Meetings with Pentagon officials about the community’s efforts to add military value to area bases and the importance of protecting Brooke Army Medical Center.
  • San Antonio’s role in the modernization of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and its importance to the local economy.
