SAN ANTONIO (April 11, 2018) — “The charter change petition filed today is harmful to the city’s future. The petition nullifies San Antonio voters’ decision-making power, which exists today through an elective and representative process, by handing it to a small group of persons who want to thwart our community’s progress.

The petition also pulls our city’s political representation back by four decades. Our community fought hard for single-member representation in 1977. Allowing a small number of voters to co-opt that advancement by gathering a low number of signatures on a petition strips our city’s political process of its equitable representation.

The intent of this petition will be costly in the future because it will increase the number of frivolous elections and it will burden our ability to maintain the momentum of progress that should be felt in every corner of our city.”
