SAN ANTONIO (May 8, 2018) — “I am in full support of the coalition recently created by Texas Organizing Project, Grassroots Leadership, Immigrant Legal Resource Center, United We Dream, and Workers Defense Project in response to the negative fallout from Texas Senate Bill 4.
Their goal of keeping families whole and eliminating the discriminatory provisions of SB4 which targets kind, hardworking families is in line with a compassionate city like San Antonio.
San Antonians have witnessed how this bill can be used maliciously to target minorities in Texas like Dennis Rivera and Laura Monterossa. We must continue to work with organizations like the Texas Organizing Project and take definitive action against this discriminatory law. SB4 promotes mistrust between the community and law enforcement officers, which incites fear and prevents our police officers from effectively performing their public safety duties.
I am ready to work with this coalition and continue to advocate for those who do not have a voice. We cannot allow the vitriolic SB4 to continue to seep into our communities.”
