Councilman Brockhouse to be a guest speaker, panelist at the Hiring Our Heroes 2018 Military Spouses Employment Summit

CONTACT: Joseph Lopez, 210-315-4366

SAN ANTONIO (June 27, 2018) – On Thursday, June 28th Councilman Brockhouse will be a guest speaker and panelist at the 2018 Military Spouses Employment Summit sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C.

This summit shapes the conversation around what it means to be a dual-income military family in the 21st Century. Stakeholders will identify best practices in talent management for recruiting and retaining military spouses, highlight standout military spouse professionals and entrepreneurs, and set the stage for a renewed emphasis on removing barriers to military spouse employment as a national security imperative.

“Having served in the United States Air Force and coming from a military family, this topic is near and dear to my heart. The current unemployment rate for military spouses is 16%, that is almost four times the national average. This is unacceptable and we must work together to protect our military families. The role of the military spouse is critical to our nation’s defense.  The military spouse often serves in quiet dignity, with great stress, while their spouse is on the job or deployed across the globe. They deserve the opportunity to find meaningful employment for their families and for their own personal accomplishment. I am honored to serve on this panel and I hope this discussion spurs a movement in San Antonio to live up to our title as Military City USA and provide employment opportunities for every military spouse,” stated Councilman Brockhouse.
