SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 9, 2018) - I’m pleased and encouraged with the City Manager’s 2019 budget proposal outlined at today’s City Council meeting.

It’s first priority is taking care of basic city needs and it moves beyond that to address our city’s development.

Incorporating equity into all aspects of City spending has been a priority of mine for several years, and I’m pleased we’re proposing an equitable budget for the second year.  This will make a needed difference in District 5, as will the funds dedicated to the Mayor’s Housing initiative.

Other items that I applaud are raising the city’s entry salary to $15.00 and hour, and funds dedicated to continuing District 5’s Promotoras pilot program and the Vision Zero initiative that will save lives on our streets.

I welcome the budget discussion to come in the next few weeks and am committed to including the voice and ideas of District 5 residents in those conversations.
