SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 28, 2018) - The following are Councilman Brockhouse’s comments on Governor Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton’s petition against the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) designation of Bexar County in Non-Attainment of Air Quality Standards:

“Today, Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a petition with the US Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit to challenge the EPA’s Non-Attainment Designation for Bexar County’s Air Quality Standards.  I want to thank the Governor and the Attorney General for stepping up to the plate and taking a leadership role for San Antonio and Bexar County. The EPA’s decision could significantly damage the local San Antonio economy, with minimal, if any, public health benefit.  I strongly encourage San Antonio leadership to support the AG’s effort to have the designation changed.  While it is a tough and uphill battle to fight the EPA’s decision, our residents and businesses should not be subject to potentially unnecessary regulatory burdens.  San Antonio and Bexar County have a significant track record of improving Air Quality Standards.  We must address this designation through any means possible and we should all be thankful that our State leadership is fighting for San Antonio.”
