SAN ANTONIO (August 31, 2018) – On Saturday, Sept. 1 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Meadowcliff Community Center (1260 Pinn Rd., 78227), Councilman Brockhouse continues the tradition of holding a unique Council Office backpack event.
“Our backpack event is a great way to give back to the students and families in the District 6 community. The way we do our backpack event guarantees the schools supplies go to the children who need them the most. We work in partnership with school counselors and administration to identify the children before and after school begins. We are grateful to all of our generous donors and volunteers who help make this special gift to our District 6 students a reality,” stated Councilman Greg Brockhouse.
Event Background Information
Students attending the event have been identified, by teachers and school counselors, as those that are most in need of assistance. For this reason the District 6 Backpack Event is scheduled the week after school begins.
During the event the District 6 Team will be providing approximately 1,000 students with backpacks completely filled with school supplies. Along with the backpack giveaway there will be community resources, haircuts, exhibits, snacks and a slew of mascots.
In the past few weeks Councilman Brockhouse and the D6 Team have issued out 250 backpacks to 12 District 6 elementary schools and 250 backpacks to SAFFE officers in District 6 to assist those students also identified by community police officers.
In the end, the backpack event will have provided over 1,500 backpacks with supplies to students in District 6. The final goal is to assist those schools with their “wish list” of items to help the students throughout the school year.
