SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 11, 2018) — A hearing to determine custody of more than 500 snakes and rodents recently seized by Animal Care Services has been moved back. The hearing is now set for Friday, Sept. 14th at 11 a.m. in Municipal Court #4 located at 401 South Frio. Last week’s seizure at a home off Rigsby was the largest in the department’s history. A herpetology expert from the San Antonio Zoo assisted ACS with the removal of the hundred and thirty six pythons found on the property which included both ball pythons and larger reticulated pythons. At least half a dozen of the larger snakes measured more than 7 feet long and one python found in the home measured an estimated 18 feet. Animal cruelty charges are pending in the case.
