SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 13, 2018) — “The City of San Antonio is legally obligated to balance our budget. At the end of the day, that legal mandate only addresses the numbers, figures, dollars, and cents of San Antonio. The City is not obligated to balance the concerns or needs of our residents, but each year City staff and my office work tirelessly to form a framework based on wholly improving the quality of life for all San Antonians.

We are tasked with being honest stewards of the public’s investment in itself, which is why I have always believed that a budget is in fact a moral document.

As it pertains to District 9, the FY2019 budget includes additional funding for our voter-approved senior center, support for our community-driven participatory budgeting initiative, necessary funds to address resident-requested drainage issues, enhanced fire and police protection, and an overall increase in infrastructure spending from last year. I hope my neighbors in District 9 and all San Antonians feel empowered by this process. This budget works for us.”
