SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 3, 2018) - City Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales and 9 members of her district staff visited each of the National Night Out events in District 5, a total of 38 events in every neighborhood, parish and corner of the district.
The effort was planned as a listening and informational tour to coincide with the annual National Night Out gatherings that occur across the country every first Tuesday of October.
“District 5 has always had a strong National Night Out turnout,” said Councilwoman Gonzales. “It’s part of the district’s neighborly character and community minded spirit,” she added.
The district staff split into 5 teams that visited an average of seven events each, where they talked to residents about public safety and also brought them up to date on infrastructure projects, housing initiatives, business opportunities as well as human services efforts and plans for future District 5 development – all the while mingling, eating hot dogs, taking pictures and entering hula-hoop contests.
“This was a great success,” said Gonzales, “there is so much positive energy in District 5, and the best way we can help that energy is by listening to the wonderful ideas and serious concerns that our residents have,” she added.
“National Night Out is the perfect opportunity to connect. We’re already looking forward to and planning our visit to next year’s events.”
