SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 4, 2018) – The following comments are Councilman Brockhouse’s statement on the passage of a City Council Resolution supporting a federal designation honoring Chinese American World War II service members.

“Today we passed a resolution in support of Federal legislation to recognize and honor Chinese American World War II service members with the Congressional Gold Medal. The resolution recognizes the service and sacrifice of over 20,000 Chinese Americans who served in the Pacific and European theaters during WWII. From the D-Day beaches of Normandy to Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal, Chinese Americans fought for and defended our independence, during a time when nearly 40% of those serving were not allowed citizenship themselves. These men and women, warriors and patriots, deserve this long overdue recognition and we are hopeful this Resolution will help push Congress to finalize this legislation and award the Congressional Gold Medal to every Chinese American who put their life on the line for our country.”
