SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 9, 2018) – District 6 will host a focus Group to identify the challenges facing female applicants to City Boards and Commissions.
District 6 is soliciting volunteers to join this forum immediately. To participate, send your requests directly to the Councilman at https://goo.gl/cYjihm.
This effort will consist of up to 16 participants, moderated by community leaders, reviewing City Boards and Commissions application forms and offering candid feedback and perceptions about the qualifications and process of applying.
“We need more women applying for Boards and Commission opportunities in our City and specifically, District 6. My colleagues, Councilmembers Viagran and Gonzales, have been leading on this issue with their Gender Equity initiatives and I have been listening to them and learning. Hopefully this focus group will help identify how we can increase applications and remove any potential roadblocks to participation in our community. The recent CPS Energy Board of Trustees application process is a perfect example of the challenge. We didn’t see enough women applying and that has to change. While I strongly supported the appointment of a female Trustee, we need more applications to make that happen. In District 6, we need more too. The best thing I can do is partner with District 6 community leaders to ask questions, listen and make a change to ensure we are inclusive and diverse in our applications and ultimately our appointments to key City and district leadership positions,” stated Councilman Brockhouse.
