SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 6, 2018) – Following the unanimous approval of an ordinance amending the funding agreement with the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center in an amount not to exceed $450,000.00 for continued improvements to the interior of the facility, and supporting the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center Project, Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales issued the following statement:
“The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center (GCAC) is a San Antonio gem that does the invaluable work of preserving the art, traditions, culture and history of our city in ways that no other organization can.
Located in the heart of the City’s Mexican-American community, the GCAC is one of the reasons that people come to San Antonio in such great numbers – they come to the internationally renowned Tejano Conjunto Festival and the nationally acclaimed Cinefestival.
The funds approved today are part of the voter-approved 2017 bond and will go towards the completion of a remodeling project of the old Progreso Pharmacy, which is now a wonderful visual arts venue.
The entire Guadalupe Cultural Arts complex, including the Teatro Guadalupe, and all the important work being done there is not just for the surrounding community or just for San Antonio, it truly is a gift to our state, our nation and to the world.”
