SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 13, 2018) — After today’s passage of a new master contract between the City of San Antonio and AT&T, Councilman Manny Pelaez offers the following statement:

“I want to thank the Mayor and my council colleagues for supporting today’s vote approving a new master contract with AT&T that will provide the City of San Antonio with communication services used in all City departments. Last Spring, after the FCC repealed Net Neutrality, I authored a council consideration request (CCR) that sought to ensure San Antonio residents who use City internet services have access to an open internet regardless of income or zip code. As a result, City staff successfully secured and memorialized AT&T’s public commitments to not block lawful content, or throttle, discriminate in our transmission of internet traffic, or degrade network performance based on content. I applaud AT&T for this assurance and look forward to working with the ITSD on future contracts to ensure no city funds are spent on services that do not uphold these open internet principles.”
