SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 19, 2018) – For the twenty-ninth (29) consecutive month, the San Antonio International Airport (SAT) continued its trend of record-breaking growth in the month of November, with 888,698 passengers making their way through the airport. This passenger count represents an increase of over 78,000 passengers – more than 10% – for the month.

The unprecedented growth continued to boost calendar year-to-date totals by 11%. SAT surpassed 9 Million passengers for the first time ever in 2017.  November’s passenger statistics represent a year-to-date total of 9.2 Million – more than 100,000 more passengers than the record breaking year of 2017, with the busy holiday travel month of December still remaining.  November’s passenger statistics make 2018 the highest passenger count in airport history.

“Our consecutive streak of record-breaking passenger numbers may appear to be routine,” said Russ Handy, Aviation Director for the City of San Antonio. “In reality, each of these milestone achievements is a result of a lot of amazing work by a dedicated team of professionals and a testament of the success of our strategic plan to both attain and retain air service with new routes, and continuously improve upon the overall airport experience our travelers enjoy.”

Domestically, traffic rose over 10% compared to November 2017, driven largely by capacity increases from many domestic carriers as well as new routes. The trend continued internationally with traffic increasing by 9% with year-to-date totals up a remarkable 13%, or 373,524 passengers. More than 23.2 Million pounds of cargo passed through SAT in November, increasing year-to-date totals by nearly 10%.

The continued growth at SAT reflects an ongoing trend of progress at the airport that has now stretched to nearly two and a half years of consecutive monthly growth and passenger records. Since 2016, 33 new flights have either been added or announced at SAT, contributing to the recent passenger growth at the airport.  In October, 2018, American Airlines announced new daily nonstop service to New York’s JFK Airport beginning February 2019.  American joined both Delta and United with nonstop service to the New York area, a previously top underserved market for SAT.
