SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 20, 2018) - In an effort to better serve local residents and their companion animals, Animal Care Services has blended their Pet Pantry assistance program with DaisyCares. The Animal Care Services’ Pet Pantry program has long provided donated food and other supplies for residents in need of temporary help. As a not-for-profit partnered with the San Antonio Food Bank, DaisyCares specializes in collecting donations of pet food and supplies to distribute to animals in need through dozens of pet pantries throughout Bexar County.
ACS Director Heber Lefgren says given DaisyCares’ reach, it was a natural partnership. “Animal Care’s mission is focused on helping people and pets,” Lefgren says. “DaisyCares does both. They do it well and we’re thrilled our new collaboration is going to increase the reach of the community’s premier pet food assistance program.” “During difficult times, pet owners need the love and support of their pets more than ever. Together, the San Antonio Food Bank and DaisyCares want families to have relief in knowing they can access food for their furry friends. We ask our community to drop-off pet food donations at the San Antonio Food Bank”, says Eric Cooper, President and CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank and Executive Director of DaisyCares.
Pet owners in need of temporary assistance should call the DaisyCares client services team at (210)431-8326 or toll free at 1-800-246-9121 to find the most convenient location for them. Although Animal Care Services will continue to serve as a donation drop-off for specific DaisyCares items, client pet food pickup will now be handled through DaisyCares pantry locations. ACS continues to gratefully accept donations off the shelter wish list which is available at SAACS.net and Amazon. Donations to ACS can be dropped off seven days a week during regular business hours at the shelter located at 4710 State Highway 151.
