SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 14, 2019) – “All interviews for City Manager should be held in public, for all of San Antonio to participate and view. This decision will affect our community for years to come. The best we can do is conduct the interviews with total transparency. We recently interviewed a replacement appointment for the District 2 vacancy, in public, and on the record. If a public interview is good enough for a Council position, it should be good enough for a City Manager. While I respect the City Council and the City Attorney’s decision to conduct the interview process in Executive Session, as the City Attorney has deemed allowable under State law, I believe the most transparent action we can demonstrate is a complete public process. This includes open session meetings that are live streamed online for all to watch. I am hopeful when the field of candidates are reduced to the finalists, all interviews will be in a public forum and publicly available online to ensure maximum participation."
