SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 17, 2019) — City Council unanimously approved a resolution committing the City to principles of public participation. The resolution affirms the City’s commitment to continuously improve community engagement efforts by ensuring they are: meaningful, transparent, respectful, inclusive, accessible, informative, responsive, timely, convenient, continuous.
“These principles are a commitment from council to the community. It is a standard you can hold us to,” remarked Councilwoman Sandoval. “I thank City staff for their participation in crafting these principles. Their buy-in and support strengthens the foundation we are laying today.”
The resolution is one of several requests made by Councilwoman Sandoval and Mayor Nirenberg, including broadcasting all City Council committee meetings; validating parking or providing bus passes for residents who attend City Council meetings; making councilmembers’ voting and attendance records accessible. In addition to these requests, Councilwoman Sandoval and Mayor Nirenberg will create a Citizens Advisory Group to continue advancing public participation in San Antonio.
