CONTACT: Carlos Valenzuela, 210-207-3919

SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 18, 2019) – On Thursday, City Council unanimously approved the first affordable/workforce housing development that is part of the $20 million voter-approved 2017-2022 Neighborhood Improvements Bond Program.

3830 Parkdale Drive site is located in the Medical Center in City Council District 8. Previously the Turtle Creek Country Club and Planeta Mexico, the site will be transformed into a 235-unit affordable multi-family rental complex serving families at 60 percent and below of the Area Median Income (AMI).

The City, acting by and through the City’s urban renewal agency OUR SA, will sell the approximately 7.07 acres of vacant land to the awarded firm, Franklin Development Properties, Ltd., to construct the multi-family development. Of the 235 units:

  • 115 will be 2 bedroom/2 bathroom units at or around $834 per month
  • 120 will be 3 bedroom/2 bathroom units at or around $965 per month

Franklin Development Properties, Ltd. is anticipated to complete the multi-family development within 27 months with the leasing office expected to open as early as March 2021.

“We are very excited that Council approved the very first affordable housing development under this program,” said Veronica Soto, director of Neighborhood and Housing Services Department. “The project is a great accomplishment and another step toward meeting the recommendations of the Mayor’s Housing Policy Task Force to provide more inventory of affordable housing to San Antonio families.”

Onsite amenities will include a pool, two play-scape areas, community room, library, gym and business center along with resident services such as afterschool activities (STEM, swimming lessons, leadership and team building), health and wellness programs, a food pantry, resident gardens and financial literacy courses.
