Councilman Brockhouse Protecting Pets in Dangerous Weather

CONTACT: Joseph Lopez, (210) 315-4366

SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 22, 2019) – The following are Councilman Brockhouse’s comments after the Public Safety Committee meeting.
“Today in the Public Safety Committee meeting, we received an update on my Council Consideration Request (CCR) calling for increased animal protections. I continue the push to protect pets in danger from inclement weather conditions. It is personal, as I have encountered animal neglect and tried to intervene, but was unsuccessful. The City must answer every call from citizens trying to report animal neglect or cruelty. We are in the middle of our coldest time of the year and pets may be exposed to life threatening weather. Animal Care Services (ACS) is committed to prioritizing calls for faster response based on severity of the situation. New ACS officers, funded in the Fiscal Year 2019 Budget, are almost fully trained and about to hit the streets to respond to these calls. Manpower and money are always a challenge, but the City must do better and we will be monitoring the data for results that offer service to residents, while protecting pets in danger.”
