Councilwoman Rebecca J. Viagran seeks property tax relief for homeowners through new comprehensive study

SAN ANTONIO (April 4, 2019) – Today, Councilwoman Rebecca J. Viagran voted to approve a contract with Economic & Planning Systems, Inc. to provide a comprehensive study of local ad valorem property tax appraisal.


“Many of my residents feel the strain of rising property tax appraisals, and to be able to provide some relief is important for me and the residents of District 3,” said Viagran. “The comprehensive study and the gathering of the data, I believe will benefit property owners both residential and commercial alike. I am pleased that we have moved forward to approve this contract comparing appraisal districts across the State.”


The contract with Economic & Planning Systems, Inc. involves research and data collection from Bexar County Appraisal District and other Texas appraisal districts, to include interviews with commercial and residential property representatives in the SA Metro area and other Texas cities, and an analysis of appraisal and protest data collected. Phase II is optional at the City’s discretion and will include an analysis of the information obtained in Phase I to determine the economic impact to the City, a comparison of the economic impact on other cities based on the information obtained in Phase I from other Texas appraisal districts.
