SAN ANTONIO (April 18, 2019) – Today the San Antonio City Council voted against a motion to reconsider a previously-approved item to a San Antonio airport concession contract that removed Chick-fil-a from participation. The following is Councilwoman Shirley Gonzales’ statement on the matter:
“I find it offensive that the City Council was placed in this needless predicament.
The original item, today’s motion and the process that led to today’s action were clear political posturing that took us away from important work to be done - housing issues that need to be addressed; people are dying on unsafe streets; the city has basic needs that call for attention.
While I’m not partial to one national chain restaurant over another, I’ve never eaten at a Chick-fil-a and there are no Chick-fil-a’s in District 5. But District 5 does have many pressing needs and the Council should get back to the business of making our city better.
There are many local small businesses that have been working for two years on this contractual opportunity and a Council majority has shown its commitment to providing them a clear path forward.”
