SAN ANTONIO (April 30, 2019) — Today, at the 2019 State of the Center City presentation, District 1 City Councilman Roberto Treviño announced the City of San Antonio and Bexar County will partner to make Under 1 Roof Program to qualifying residents living in unincorporated Bexar County. The terms of the partnership have not been formalized, but the County has committed to fund the program in the amount of $1 million over the next five years.
“I am excited Under 1 Roof will soon be available to residents in unincorporated Bexar County to provide distressed homeowners with relief,” stated Treviño. “This program continues to demonstrate the importance of approaching complex issues like housing affordability with compassion and pragmatism, and I am grateful to Judge Wolff and the County for their support. We look forward to City staff working with the County to develop an agreement that will lay out the terms and conditions for this program.”
Once the program is in place, seniors over 65, veteran, disabled, and low-income homeowners residing in Bexar County will be eligible to receive a high reflectance roof constructed by roofing professionals at no cost. Furthermore, in 2018, a study of the program revealed that the “high-reflectance roofs” lowered home temperatures and saved recipients an annual average of 7% of their CPS Energy bill. By the end of this fiscal year, the program will have completed nearly 700 roofs in San Antonio since its inception in 2016.
"I commend Councilman Trevino on his Under 1 Roof Program," remarked County Judge Nelson Wolff, who was in attendance at State of the Center City address. “I look forward to seeking Commissioners Court approval for it.”
