SAN ANTONIO (May 21, 2019) – Today, Councilwoman Rebecca J. Viagran celebrated TJX Companies’ grand opening of the new T.J. Maxx San Antonio Distribution Center and their $150 million investment and commitment to District 3. The Fortune 100 Company will employ over 1,000 San Antonio residents inside a state-of-the-art 1.5 million square facility and provide each eligible full-time employee, and dependents, health insurance and 401(k) benefits.
“The T.J. Maxx San Antonio Distribution Center means access and opportunity for a part of town that has been written off for a very long time. It means good paying jobs, great benefits, healthcare and stability for families; and it means access and opportunity for the future of District 3,” said Councilwoman Viagran. “This addition shows the rest of the City of San Antonio, the region, and Texas that the south side can attract Fortune 100 Companies and make a huge impact on our community.”
Included in the $150 million investment TJX Companies committed to donate 15-20 acres to Southside Independent School District for construction of a school, construct a 4 mile Espada Bike and Hike Trail (approximately 17 acres) connecting the Medina Greenway to the Mission Espada Trail, and convey 300 acres of wetlands for preservation, community recreation, agricultural, research or educational purposes.
“TJX’s commitment to investing and connecting our community is transformative and will continue to be transformative to the future of District 3,” said Councilwoman Viagran. “Thank you to TJX for choosing San Antonio and I look forward to seeing the company flourish in our community.”
