SAN ANTONIO (Sep. 12, 2019) — Mayor Ron Nirenberg issued the following statement on the passage of the City of San Antonio’s FY2020 budget:

“Months of deliberations and work have been poured into a more equitable document that will serve as a declaration of our service to San Antonio.

“Months of deliberations and work have been poured into a more equitable document that will serve as a declaration of our service to San Antonio.

This budget will allow for the hiring of a chief housing officer and provide over $1.5 million in commitments to the Alamo Colleges District’s Alamo Promise program, ensuring that San Antonio residents are provided an array of opportunities as they work to thrive in our city.

Beyond the monetary equity we employ in addressing our greatest needs, I hope we can continue to further the discussion of equity as it relates to our most underserved. The City’s budget should be the primary tool to lift up all of our residents.

Thank you to my Council colleagues, who fight earnestly and honestly every day for their residents, and to City Manager Erik Walsh and his team on a job well done.”
