SAN ANTONIO (September 12, 2019) – Today, the City of San Antonio took a momentous step forward by passing a resolution fully supporting the Senate passage of H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019.
I would like to thank my Council Colleagues who stood up today and voted to support protections for up to 2.5 million immigrants who have grown up knowing the United States as their home. There has never been a more relevant time to protect equity, diversity, and inclusion by urging our federal lawmakers to take action and support the Dream Act.
As the original sponsor of the CCR setting this resolution in motion, I am overjoyed to be standing up for legislation that will assist these immigrants and their families. We need to understand our Dreamers & DACA recipients are active, fully engaged members of society in every single council district. Our community should not have to live in daily fear of not only being separated from their families but fear of the consequences and hateful rhetoric coming from the White House. This is the morally correct thing to do as there is more that unites us than divides us.
