SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 26, 2019) – Animal Care Services has attained full custody of several dozen animals brought into the shelter earlier this month from a cruelty seizure. The female suspects, who are 43 and 50 years old respectively, agreed to surrender the animals to ACS prior to a court hearing today. Eighteen dogs, seven cats, two tortoises, a rooster, a chicken and turtle were seized from a home in the 1500 block of Avant on September 13th after they were found living in inhumane conditions. Working in partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife, ACS investigators determined one of the seized animals was actually a Texas Tortoise, an endangered species protected by State law. That animal will be turned over to local game wardens for further rehabilitation while the rest will be placed through rescue. Animal cruelty charges are pending.
