SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 7, 2019) – The Department of Arts & Culture is hosting an open call for professional qualifications for its Public Art initiatives. Public artists and support services contractors able to provide creative and technical services to support public art and project delivery functions of City-funded and bond-funded capital improvement projects are encouraged to apply. Interested individuals can apply for the Public Art and Public Art Support Services at https://sanantonio.gosmart.org/ by the deadline of Nov. 12, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.

Qualified candidates are required to demonstrate successful experience and technical expertise for upcoming commission opportunities. Once approved by City Council, pre-qualified applicants remain eligible for contract opportunities over a three-year period.

“This is the first step in being part of the public art commissioning process,” said Debbie Racca-Sittre, Director, Department of Arts & Culture. “Not only does this opportunity provide a chance to become engaged in civic leadership and community building, but also create artwork that impacts the lives of San Antonio residents and visitors.”

The Department's Public Art Division selects projects that increase citywide and neighborhood connectivity, advance equity, leverage funds and partnerships, has transformative potential for communities, and meets project feasibility requirements. Art projects include two-dimensional, three-dimensional, environmental, functional, and other temporary and permanent commissions.

Public Artists include area, state, national, and international artists interested in potential public art projects. Professional Services include individuals, firms, and creative non-profit arts organizations that provide services including, but not limited to: consulting, curating, writing, project management, art history, art handling and shipping, art appraising, restoring and conserving art, art fabrication and installation, photo and video documentation, graphic and web-based design, and technical design.
