SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 27, 2019) – The City of San Antonio today announced the appointment of Dawn Emerick Ed.D as the new Director for the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health). The search process began in September of this year and she will be replacing now Assistant City Manager Dr. Colleen Bridger, who served as the Metro Health Director from 2017 to 2019. Dr. Emerick brings over 20 years of experience in both public health and human service sectors in Florida and Oregon.
"I am excited to have Dr. Emerick on board. Our nationwide search process has culminated in San Antonio finding a distinguished leader to oversee Metro Health" said City Manager Erik Walsh. "She has exceptional experience at the forefront of public health policy and a proven record of coordinating and implementing important public health initiatives. I have no doubt that her experience will bring new initiatives and help improve public health in our city."
In her roles as the Health Department Director in Benton County, Oregon and the Public Health Director in Clackamas County, Oregon, Dr. Emerick provided strategic direction and leadership to employees embarking on the state of Oregon’s major health care and public health transformation within local behavioral health, developmental diversity, and public health services. During her time in Jacksonville, Florida she served as President and CEO of the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida. She successfully oversaw and executed public grants, contracts and cross-sector partnerships to improve public health programs to better serve its residents.

"I look forward to working comprehensively to educate the public, strengthen existing and develop new partnerships between public health, social services and healthcare delivery; and build on the work of the City’s efforts to advance health equity in San Antonio.

Metro Health provides services and access to quality resources to local residents and its mission to protect, preserve and promote the health and well-being of residents, particularly the most vulnerable. As Director, Dr. Emerick will advance this mission and oversee the departments more than 30 programs grouped into: Communicable Disease, Community Health and Environmental Health and Operations.
Dr. Emerick will officially start with the City of San Antonio on Monday, January 27, 2020.
