San Antonio, Texas (March 9, 2020) – Metro Health is kicking off National Nutrition Month by launching a new San Antonio Food Trail: ¡Por Vida! Healthy Trail. Metro Health’s ¡Por Vida! Program has partnered with Culinaria – a local organization dedicated to promoting San Antonio as a premier food destination to launch this new healthy food trail.

The ¡Por Vida! program highlights restaurants and businesses that offer healthy menu items to the community or their employees. This program works with restaurant owners and chefs to identify menu items that meet certain nutrition criteria for calories, saturated fat, sodium, and added sugar while avoiding foods that are fried or have trans fats.

Metro Health has collaborated with Culinaria to highlight ten local restaurants that promote tasty and healthy menu options while also giving back to the community. The first ten restaurants selected for the San Antonio Food Trails ¡Por Vida! Healthy Trail are:

5-Points Local, Zocca Cuisine d’Italia, The Fruteria, The Good Kind, Savor, Thyme for Lunch, Pharm Table, Sweet Yams, Marla, and Peace Juicery.

All ten restaurants are ¡Por Vida! partners who embrace and sustain our community and its culture by fostering a healthy food environment that is now thriving in our city.

The partners on this healthy trail reflect the values behind the expansion of the ¡Por Vida! program. In 2020, Metro Health will be expanding ¡Por Vida! to a tiered system that recognizes food service establishments not only for providing healthy food menu items, but also for receiving high health inspection scores, encouraging a tobacco-free environment, practicing friendly environmental practices, and giving back to the community.

This program also addresses the need for increased awareness of healthy meal options in the community, drives the community to food establishments that promote a healthy environment, and supports businesses as they work to help create an even healthier San Antonio. Metro Health encourages restaurants to join this FREE program and is always accepting new participants.
