SAN ANTONIO (March 11, 2020) – During National League of Cities Capitol Hill Advocacy Day, Councilwoman Rebecca J. Viagran along with a group of local leaders will be meeting with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence to discuss several issues cities are currently facing: building sustainable infrastructure, creating a skilled workforce, ending housing instability and homelessness, reducing gun violence, and including coronavirus updates. Councilwoman Viagran will discuss the need for better coordination and communication across federal, state and local levels concerning COVID-19, along with obtaining the latest information coming out of the White House hoping to obtain more information regarding access and availability of test kits for San Antonio. Vice President Pence was tapped to oversee the U.S. federal government’s response to COVID-19.
The councilwoman was elected to the National League of Cities Board of Directors in 2018, which provides strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy, governance and membership activities. She also serves on NLC’s Executive Committee, 2020 Presidential Task Force and was recently appointed to NLC’s 2020 Joint Committee on Homelessness.
