SAN ANTONIO (May 21, 2020) – The City of San Antonio’s Covered with Compassion initiative has partnered with the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to reach their goal of collecting 50,000 new cloth face covering donations. Covered with Compassion held its first donation drive on May 8. Thus far the campaign has collected 16,925 cloth face coverings from the business and faith community.

“The face masks donated to-date by the faith community, businesses, and corporate community exhibit the better of our common humanity and our mutual commitment to the most vulnerable in our city. I’m more confident than ever that we will succeed because the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is a partner in reaching the donation goal,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg.

Cloth face coverings are strongly recommended for people over the age of 10 to slow the spread of COVID-19. Face coverings can include cloth masks, scarves, bandanas, or a handkerchief.

"The San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is proud to partner with the City of San Antonio, we will not only encourage our members but our entire business community to help us reach our goal of collecting 50,000 cloth face coverings," said Dr. Erika Gonzalez, Chairwoman of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. "Together, we are Compassionate and Siempre Juntos SA."

Donations of new cloth masks, scarves, bandanas, and handkerchiefs will be distributed to community members in marginalized communities at five of the senior centers operated by the City of San Antonio Department of Human Services, Senior Services Division.

Donations may be dropped off Thursday, May 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at TriPoint, 3233 N. St. Mary’s St., 78212. Covered with Compassion is committed to working with the business community to reach the 50,000 face covering donation goal.
