SAN ANTONIO (July 2, 2020) — The best way to celebrate 4th of July this year is to keep each other safe. Residents are advised to help contain the spread of COVID-19 by staying home whenever possible. If residents choose to go out they should wear a face covering, keep six-feet of physical distance from others and practice good hygiene habits, such as washing hands. “This Independence Day we are more dependent than ever on each other to stay safe and stop the spread of this deadly virus. The best thing you can do to show your patriotism this year is heed the warnings and stay away from parties, cookouts and celebrations. There will be many more 4th of July holidays if we all work together and protect those around us,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg. San Antonio began seeing a spike in cases approximately two weeks after Memorial Day Weekend. Local hospitals will exceed capacity if there is another spike as a result of the 4th of July weekend. FIREWORKS USE IN THE CITY OF SAN ANTONIO IS ILLEGAL The use of fireworks in the City of San Antonio is illegal and can result in a Class C Misdemeanor which can carry a fine of up to $2,000.
