SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 29, 2020) - As in past years, the first weekend in October has always been reserved to honor the nation’s fallen firefighters who died in the line of duty the previous year, at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial located in Emmitsburg, Maryland. This year, due to Covid-19, an in-person event is not possible.

On the evening of October 3rd, as dusk turns to dark, landmarks, buildings, bridges, fire stations, and homes across the country will light up in “red” to honor America’s fallen firefighters as part of the Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters program.

The Frost Bank Tower, The Henry B. González Convention Center, and the Tower of the Americas will all light up red to honor fallen firefighters. In addition, the Alamodome will pay a special marquee tribute to SAFD Firefighter Greg P. Garza who lost his life while on duty October 15, 2019.

Businesses throughout San Antonio are invited to Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters and light up Red this Saturday night October 3rd if they are able.

For businesses lighting up red, use #nffflightthenight2020 on social. In addition, photos can be sent to firepio@sanantonio.gov
