SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 5, 2020) – Cruelty investigators with Animal Care Services are looking for answers after a small kitten was tossed off a bridge into the San Antonio River. In late September, a resident was feeding birds by the Arsenal bridge when they noticed a car stopping suddenly on the street above. That witness then saw an unidentified person throw a purple soft sided pet crate into the water before speeding away. Authorities were able to get the sinking bag out the river but the tiny black kitten inside, a three-month-old shorthaired female, was deceased. Although the carrier had no identifying labels and appeared new, ACS investigators did find several clues inside. In addition to several paper towels from a commercial dispenser, the crate also contained a color brochure entitled “2020 San Antonio coupon book.” The pamphlet featuring local attractions is like those seen in hotel lobbies and guest service centers. Animal Care Services is asking residents with any information to call 311 and ask for the animal cruelty investigations unit.
