SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 1, 2020) — Today, District 3 volunteered at the South Side Lions Senior Center to distribute food to seniors in need. Seniors from the District 3 community lined up in their cars to receive food from the San Antonio Food Bank. Safety measures and social distancing were enforced. “It was nice to see our seniors this morning. All were in great spirits and are looking forward to the senior centers opening in January,” Councilwoman Viagran stated. “Until we can open our senior centers, events like this are so important in keeping seniors engaged and taken care of during these times. Many thanks to the San Antonio Food Bank and the South Side Lions Senior Center for partnering on this event. They certainly touched many lives today and helped in a huge way.” The San Antonio Food Bank partnered with the South Side Lions Senior Center for their Convoy of Hope event. Senior Centers are temporarily closed due to the COVID pandemic and are slated to re-open in mid-January. Until then, all Senior Center members enrolled in the Senior Nutrition Program are receiving meal distributions at the senior centers during the closure. Seniors needing a meal may contact the Department of Human Services senior center nearest to them for services or call 210.207.7172.
