SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 10, 2020) — The City of San Antonio earned the maximum 100 points on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Municipal Equality Index (MEI) Scorecard for 2020. The 2020 MEI is a national evaluation of 506 cities on how inclusive cities’ laws, policies, and services are of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) people. San Antonio is one of 94 cities to earn the maximum score this year. This year, the cities rated are: the 50 state capitals, the 200 largest cities in the United States, the five largest cities or municipalities in each state, the cities home to the state’s two largest public universities (including undergraduate and graduate enrollment), 75 cities & municipalities that have high proportions of same sex couples and 98 cities selected by HRC and Equality Federation state groups members and supporters. Cities are rated on a scale of 0-100, based on the city’s laws, policies, benefits, and services. There are 100 standard points and 22 flex points (flex points are awarded for items which apply to some but not all cities).
